Cycle ride from London to Paris

Dr Andrew Barritt, a Neurology Registrar and Clinical Research Fellow within the Clinical Imaging Sciences Centre at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, will be cycling from London to Paris in July in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.  His doctoral research project with Professor Nigel Leigh involves performing detailed MRI brain scans in patients with MND to better understand the mechanisms by which cells are affected and how they succumb in this incurable and rapidly fatal neurodegenerative condition.

He would be most grateful for your support through his fundraising page at in order to help the MNDA to continue its vital research into effective treatments.

New Chairmen.

I am pleased to announce that, at our AGM on 23rd April, we elected two new chairmen, who will share the post for a trial year.

Sandy Barrett, our visitor coordinator, will take over the everyday running of the branch and Jo Stimson, a previous vice chair and business woman, will provide support and new ideas. We wish them both every success in their new posts.

Brian Dickie, Director of Research Development for the Association, gave a very encouraging and enlightening talk on the latest developments in research.

I should like to thank everyone for all your support over my 8 year stint as chair.

Successful Quiz.

The Autumn Quiz attracted 92 people this year and was again at the Aldingbourne Sports and Social Centre. Lin and Matthew Crompton were again wonderful quizmasters, the fish and chips were provided, as always, by Royals in Bognor Regis and a generous raffle helped to raise the total raised to £690.

We hope to see all our supporters at the branch Christmas meeting on 27th November, where the Sundown Ukulele Band will be entertaining us and refreshments will be served.

New Chairman and Fundraiser required!

Unfortunately, I shall be standing down as branch chair at the next AGM in April. We are looking for someone with a passion to help people living with MND to take on this rewarding role and also a Fundraiser to coordinate all the fundraising events that take place in our lively and dedicated branch. Please contact me for job descriptions and other information if you feel that you could be that person! I look forward to hearing from you.

32nd AGM

We were very privileged to have Sally Light, Chief Executive of MNDA as our guest for the day on Monday, 24th April. Sally visited several people living with MND and, at a special lunch, awarded an Extra Mile Award to Sandra Holden, one of our MND nurses.

In the evening she attended our AGM and, as well as giving an interesting and inspiring speech, she presented awards to 5 people who had been branch members for 30 years and were all still active in the branch! These were Frances Ramsden, Kitty Mounstephen, Margaret Tester, Helen and Robert Clifford-Jones.

Autumn Quiz

Our autumn quiz has raised £602.00 !

In spite of the fact that it was Bonfire night, 75 people attended the quiz and enjoyed the evening, especially the fish and chips and fantastic raffle! Our new Quizmasters, Lin and Matt, created a very challenging set of questions, which had teams scratching their heads and led to a great deal of discussion.

A Big Thankyou to everyone
